Exciting vibes permeated Coachella in April of 2024 as Deftones took the stage, delivering a set filled with surprises and promises of more to come. Among the highlights was their rendition of the Smiths' classic "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want," a track they famously covered on their 2005 B-Sides & Rarities album. Ayo Jegede of Stylus Magazine said of that album: "Each of these B-sides and alternates replicates a period in their career, so while the songs themselves may be new, they perfectly encapsulate each album of the band’s catalogue as though they were overarching epochs."

In addition to some original Deftones songs, that album has covers of songs originally performed by Cocteau Twins, Helmet, The Cure, Duran Duran, and even Lynyrd Skynyrd. However, this marked the first time they treated fans to a live performance of the song, adding a fresh twist to their repertoire. Adding to the thrill, the band dusted off "Combat" for the first time since 2011, injecting the set with an electrifying energy that surely captivated the audience.

In a candid chat with KROQ backstage, Chino Moreno spilled the beans on the band's forthcoming album, sending waves of anticipation rippling through the fanbase. He revealed they've got a complete musical record in the bag. Right now, he said his focus is nailing down the vocals.

Yes, ou'll have to wait for the new Deftones album

Chino was hesitant to lock in a timeframe because the band is not about rushing things. Quality is their priority, and they want it to be nothing short of exceptional. But rest assured, it's on the horizon, and you'll have to trust him when he says it's sounding phenomenal. The band is itching to share what they've been cooking up, and fans are eagerly awaiting their next masterpiece. The anticipation for their new album is palpable, as Deftones continue to captivate audiences with their dynamic performances and innovative soundscapes.
