Check out this trailer for a documentary covering a very special event held to mark the 50th anniversary of the classic album.

Yes, Dark Side Of The Moon is really 50 years old this year. With over 50 million copies sold, the album has a very significant place in music history. To celebrate its release Pink Floyd has been marking it with a very unique and appropriate event on April 20 this year.

At first, hearing the event was a listening party with just eight fans doesn't sound that significant, but Pink Floyd has made it very special. Those eight fans were competition winners to attend the listening party, which was held at McLeod’s Beach at UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Marine Park (Nyinggulu) in Exmouth, Western Australia.

The whole party setting, including a huge black pyramid set against the horizon, was designed by Aubrey Powell, co founder of Hipgnosis who created many of the band's cool album artworks over the years.

A spectacular Pink Floyd event and setting

The event was specially set and timed to be shared with an amazing total eclipse of the sun. And when I say timed, I mean precisely -  the closing line, "But the sun is eclipsed by the moon…" from the album’s final song, "Eclipse," was played to align exactly with the moment of that total eclipse in the sky above the event at 11.29 a.m. WST precisely.

If that already sounds very much classic Pink Floyd, then when you see the brilliant setting, you’ll realize just how true that is. The event was filmed for a documentary, so we’ll all get to see and hear more later this year.

For now, though, a stunning trailer has been shared by Pink Floyd on social media and gives an early glimpse of the event's stylistic coverage.

I’m loving the reference to Teaser Trailer 1, which seems to promise more to come. I can't wait to see the next one and, of course, the documentary when it is available in September. And in the meantime, all that has prompted an urgent need to listen to the great album again…
