Spin reports that Talking Heads will reunite at the Toronto Film Festival (TIFF) 2023, the first the band has been together since their 2002 induction to The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Sadly, the reunion isn't for a reunion tour but rather to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the band’s beloved concert film Stop Making Sense.

Talking Heads was formed in 1975 in New York City. Band members David Byrne (lead vocals, guitar), Chris Frantz (drums), Tina Weymouth (bass), and Jerry Harrison (keyboards, guitar) would be one of the bands to pave the way for new wave music.

Stop Making Sense is a concert film that captured the band's performances in December 1983 at a series of concerts at Hollywood's Pantages Theater. Directed by Johnathan Demme, the film received critical acclaim and has since gained a considerable cult following.

In March 2023, worldwide rights to Stop Making Sense was acquired by A24. The studio will feature the newly-restored film at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival on September 11 in 4K on IMAX. Following the viewing, Spike Lee will host a Q&A featuring Byrne, Weymouth, Frantz, and Harrison. Stop Making Sense will also see a global theatrical release on the same day. On August 18, Rhino Entertainment will feature a new remaster of the movie's soundtrack that, for the first time, includes the entire concert. The soundtrack will be available digitally and on vinyl.

Fans of Talking Heads are excited to learn of the band's reunion, even if it isn't for a tour. The band last performed in March 2022 at their induction to The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The band performed fan-favorite hits, "Life During Wartime," "Psycho Killer," and "Burning Down the House." They were joined on stage by touring members Bernie Worrell and Steve Scales to celebrate this significant event.

Don't miss the re-release of Stop Making Sense in theaters on September 11, 2023. Tickets are available now.
