In August 1994, the Michael Lehmann (Heathers) directed comedy Airheads was released in theaters. The film may have failed critically and commercially but it has lived on to become a cult classic popular with metalheads worldwide.

The movie introduces three struggling heavy metal musicians who decide to infiltrate a radio station in order to get their demo played on air. When the employees at the station resist, they hold the employees hostage with realistic-looking water guns. "The music made them do it," goes the tagline.

Brendan Fraser, Adam Sandler, and Steve Buscemi portray Chazz, Rex, and Pip, known as The Lone Rangers, the band who are just looking for a break in the music biz. The movie comprises a fantastic list of talent including Joe Mantegna, Michael McKean, Amy Locane, Michael Richards, Judd Nelson, Chris Farley, Ernie Hudson, Nina Siemaszko, David Arquette, Reg. E. Caffrey, Amy Locane, Marshall Bell, Michelle Hurst, and more.

Keeping with the heavy metal theme the movie features several metal cameos. The Galactic Boys appeared at the band Sons of Thunder and performed their original single "Don't Hate Me Because I'm Beautiful" in the movie. The song was never officially recorded and besides the clip from the movie, no other recordings are known to exist. Mike Judge lends his vocal talents of Beavis and Butt-Head as a caller into the radio station to poke fun at The Lone Rangers.

Kurt Loder, correspondent of MTV News, appeared as himself. As the movie states, "Lemmy is Gawd," referring to Lemmy Kilmister of  Motörhead, who appeared as a member of the crowd, School Magazine Editor Rocker. Filmmaker and musician Rich Wilkes was also in the crowd as Corduroy Pants Rocker, and John Melendez, aka Stuttering John, who is known for The Howard Stern Show, portrayed Constant Masturbating Rocker.

White Zombie, the heavy metal band featured in the bar scene, appeared as themselves performing an original track for the film "Feed The Gods." Metallica, Cannibal Corpse, and Testament all declined to appear in the scene. White Zombie frontman Rob Zombie took to social media to commemorate the film's anniversary. (Edit: Zombie has since removed the post) Interesting bit of trivia. In an interview with Variety, Fraser shared that he has an actual cassette of a demo the actors did with Zombie.

The soundtrack is ripe with outstanding heavy metal songs and more, which add to the greatest of the movie.
