Jay Weinberg, renowned for his dynamic drumming with Slipknot and currently with Suicidal Tendencies, has announced plans to release solo material in 2025. He stated: "Though the phrase 'New Year's resolution' has never really connected with me, I've always believed in the power of intention, and following through on setting manageable goals...One of my ambitions for 2025 is to record more music in the studio — starting with my own material I've been writing for quite a while. Some of which I've been working away at since my early 20's."

In a recent Instagram post, Weinberg shared a black-and-white photo from 2017, depicting him playing guitar with a substantial pedal board at his feet and a drum stool behind him. He reflected on his creative process during a hiatus from touring with Slipknot, during which he assembled a band to perform his compositions. Although the group never performed live, the experience was a significant creative challenge for him

In 2022, he said tensions within Slipknot were creatively a blessing in disguise; "That only makes for great art. The phrase 'iron sharpens iron' is really true for us." However, that truth must have been limited, as he is no longer with Slipknot. On the bright side, it gives him time and incentive to focus on other creative work, including those pieces that have been in development for over a decade.

Expressing his renewed inspiration, Weinberg stated, "It feels good to finally set the intention of releasing some of this new music in the coming year." He emphasized his commitment to spending considerable time in the studio to bring these songs to fruition, aiming to share them with his audience when they're ready. Of course, his solo project does not necessarily mean he's abandoning all of his other commitments.

Suicidal Tendencies on tour with Metallica and others

In addition to his solo endeavors, Weinberg is slated to continue performing with Suicidal Tendencies, who are scheduled to support Metallica on their M72 world tour in 2025. The North American leg of the tour is set from April 12 through June 29, with Suicidal Tendencies appearing as special guests on select dates.

Weinberg's musical journey has been marked by versatility and a relentless drive to explore his craft's depths. Raised in a musically rich environment — his father, Max Weinberg, is the longtime drummer for Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band — Jay has carved out his own path in the music industry. His tenure with Slipknot, beginning in 2014, showcased his ability to deliver intense and complex rhythms, contributing significantly to the band's dynamic sound.

His current role with Suicidal Tendencies further exemplifies his adaptability and passion for diverse musical styles. The forthcoming solo project represents a new chapter in Weinberg's career, offering fans a glimpse into his personal artistic expression beyond his contributions to established bands. As anticipation builds for his solo release, listeners can look forward to experiencing a more intimate and unfiltered side of Jay Weinberg's musicianship, reflecting years of dedication and creative exploration.
