A new album from the Rolling Stones is usually an event in itself. This time around, the band looks to be teasing fans and the music industry with a slightly unusual initial launch.
A new Rolling Stones album will be quite momentous. This will be their first since the passing of drummer Charlie Watts two years ago this month. They haven’t released a new album of original material since 2005 when A Bigger Bang was released, and even if we take their Blues And Lonesome release of cover songs into account, that was back in 2016.
Despite all that, the launch of what seems to be a brand-new album is cryptic and somewhat low-key. But there are some great clues in sight to help us all.
What do we know about a new Rolling Stones album?
There’s no direct announcement yet. BCC News reports an advert in a local paper in East London, the Hackney Gazette, for a fictional glass repair business. Hackney Diamonds. It’s scattered with clues pointing to the Rolling Stones and a new release. Have a look at the picture of the newspaper page and the advert below and see how many you can spot!
Did you notice any of these below in the advert?
- The band's hits mentioned in the advert? "Our friendly team promises you satisfaction.” Or “When you say gimme shelter, we'll fix your shattered windows."
- The dot on the top of the letter i in diamonds is the band's famous tongue logo.
- The fictional business was formed in 1962, the same year as the band.
- And for authentic Stones fans, they may have noticed the font on the advert is reportedly used on the band's 1978 album Some Girls.
There’s more information beyond the advert, too. It carries a telephone number with a recorded message suggesting a September release date. Callers can register for a mailing list at Hackney Diamonds websitie. The mailing list and terms and conditions on the site all point to the band’s record label, Universal Music. Hackney Diamonds is now believed to be the new album title.
This makes it exciting for Rolling Stones fans as we anticipate new music from the legendary group. Everyone will be now looking out for more information or clues about the album.
